Children already have the most important ingredient for learning: curiosity.

They ask why games remember what they built. They wonder where photos go after they are uploaded. They notice strange weather, clever animals, robots, maps, machines, and things adults have stopped questioning.

ChloeLabs helps them do something with those questions.

Instead of giving children another stream of facts to consume, ChloeLabs helps them turn curiosity into projects they can build, test, investigate, create, improve, and explain.

What is a Bytelet?

A Bytelet is a small project guide built around one interesting question.

It gives a learner enough structure to begin without deciding everything for them.

A Bytelet might help a child:

  • trace where a saved game world goes
  • build a model of how the internet carries a message
  • compare ways to measure the weather
  • test whether an AI system can be fooled
  • investigate how a satellite sees Earth
  • create a better version of something they already use

Bytelets are intentionally small.

A child may complete one in an afternoon, return to it several times, or use it as the beginning of a much larger project.

Small enough to start. Open enough to grow.

Every Bytelet begins with a clear question or challenge.

It may include:

  • a short list of materials or tools
  • a few manageable steps
  • prompts for predicting and noticing
  • a way to collect evidence
  • an invitation to test another version
  • a harder next challenge
  • a short reflection prompt

The guide provides a starting point.

The learner still makes the important choices.

They decide what to try, what to change, what evidence matters, and where the project should go next.

From one question to a growing project

ChloeLabs is not built around finishing worksheets or collecting points.

It is built around projects that develop over time.

A learner might begin with:

Where does my Minecraft world go when I save it?

That question could lead them to:

  1. Learn about devices, servers, and storage.
  2. Build a model showing how game data moves.
  3. Investigate what happens without an internet connection.
  4. Create a diagram or animation.
  5. Share what they discovered.
  6. Ask a new question about multiplayer games or large online systems.

Each attempt, note, sketch, observation, and improvement becomes part of the same project story.

Choose the path that helps

Every project is different.

Learners may use one or more ChloeLabs paths:

Find the ideas and vocabulary needed to understand the question.

Build

Make a model, tool, prototype, or working version.

Investigate

Observe, compare, measure, and test.

Create

Turn the idea into art, writing, video, design, or another original form.

Share

Explain the discovery to someone else.

There is no requirement to complete every path.

The right path is simply the one that helps the project move forward.

Real learning is rarely tidy.

Ideas fail. Designs change. Questions become better questions.

What learners practice

ChloeLabs projects are designed to strengthen more than technical knowledge.

Learners practice:

These habits matter in science, engineering, entrepreneurship, leadership, and everyday life.

Built for ages 7–15

ChloeLabs is designed for curious children and young teenagers.

Younger learners may need more visual guidance and adult support.

Older learners can take on greater independence, technical depth, and open-ended challenges.

The same core principle applies at every age:

Start with a real question. Do something with it. Save what happened. Make the next version better.

Built by a parent. Inspired by a child.

ChloeLabs was created by Amanda Tan, an AI, cloud, and research-computing education leader with more than a decade of experience turning complex technology into hands-on learning.

The project was inspired by her daughter Chloe and by a simple belief:

Children should not have to wait until college or their first technical job to understand the systems shaping their lives.

They should have room to question them, test them, build with them, and eventually improve them.
